We admit to a huge bias here. We love sweet wines and have had some amazing taste experiences when matching these wines to puddings, cheeses and pates.

The best sweet wines are labours of love - hours in the vineyard, harvesting by hand, and all at the whim of mother nature. You'll find below some of our favourite wines of all. If you've never tasted them, then you are you really missing out.

Port and sherry also fall into this category and in the right hands they are some of the best wines on the planet. There are two basic kinds of port.

Wood aged ports - these are the wines that are aged in wooden barrels for long periods, from 10-30 years, before being bottled and sold. They include ruby port and tawny port, and are lighter, fruitier more gentle wines.

Bottle aged Port - every now and then, a year is declared as a vintage. Aged in barrels for a couple of years, but then put into bottles to start a magic evolution. Heavy, rich and with a deep sediment, these are wines which are aged for years, before decanting and savouring!

LBV- Late bottled Vintage is a more modern half-way house; some of the character of vintage port, but doesn’t have the sediment.

Sherry is similar in some ways. Two styles - fino styles which include amontillado are dry. Olarosso and it’s derivatives like cortado.
